These photos were taken between 2:55pm and 3:05pm on Friday as the men from the neigborhood made their way to the mosque to pray. The Qu’ran calls its believers to come remember Allah when the call is proclaimed to prayer on Friday (the day of assembly).
It’s interesting to move from France where religion is strictly personal to the US where the culture is pretty Christian-seasoned to Senegal where Islam is the obvious majority religion.
When we hear the call to prayer broadcasted from the local mosque five times a day, we stop and pray, although not in the same way as our Muslim friends.
We pray for wisdom for the political leaders of Senegal, for peace during the upcoming elections, for a solution to the power cuts and calm tempers until then, and for our friends and family here in Senegal.
