Hot season is in bloom. Well, bloom then wither from the intense heat. There’s about a two-month period each year when I just go into survival mode. Everything else gets pushed back and my main focus is just not melting during the daytime.
You’d think that as we accumulate more months and years here that we’d get more acclimated and eventually use fans only on the hottest days.
Nope. We seem to be doing the exact opposite: going toubab.
We had AC installed in the living room a couple weeks ago. This should make us more popular with our friends who live in AC, but especially with our friends who don’t. Y’all come on over. Just call first so we can get ‘er cranked up and cooled off before you arrive.
And when you walk in the door, I’ll greet you with a frozen spiced coffee. I finally learned how to work a blender and drink one of these babies every afternoon during Pape’s nap. (Assuming, of course, that the electricity is on.)
1 cup brewed strong coffee, cooled
1 tbsp powdered milk
2 tbsp powdered chai mix (cinnamon, cloves, cardamom…)
teeny bit of honey
couple drops of almond extract
1 tray of ice cubes
Blend until smooth and amazing.
